The Triceratops Dominate Community Christian on Sophomore Night

The Triceratops (8-14) made a statement on Sophomore Night, stomping to a 44-17 halftime lead and never looking back in a dominant 94-34 win over Community Christian College. Sophomore Artica Conner (12 points) set the tone early with nine points when she connected on 3 of 4 before suffering a knee injury. Her teammates stepped up, led by fellow Sophomore Tyariah Flowers who seized the moment, adding 25 points, five assists, nine rebounds, and seven deflections. Flowers scored 10 points in the first half and 12 in the third quarter alone, fueling the team's overwhelming 50-17 halftime lead.

Hazely Wagner stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, seven steals, and 10 deflections. Coach Dion Griffin praised the team's execution of their game plan, especially their offensive surge, which has been a season-long focus. "We have the talent to do this regularly," Griffin said. The Triceratops shot an impressive 46.3% from the field and had five players finish in double figures, including LaNysha Prewitt 10 points, 13 rebounds (10 offensive), and Alaya Harris (10 points).

The duo of Flowers and Wagner was impressive. Their complimentary basketball set the stage and showed the team's defensive strength. Flowers displayed leadership, floor command, and toughness. Wagner is turning into one of the best all-around players in the conference. From the outset, the game was never in doubt. The Triceratops jumped out to a commanding early lead and never looked back. Coach Griffin credited the team's defense and sharp shooting: "When our defense is locked in like it was today, and our shots are falling, we are a tough team to beat."

The defense was equally dominant, holding the Lions to just 22% shooting and forcing 35 turnovers with 30 deflections. The Lady Triceratops scored 42 points off turnovers and controlled the boards, 52-31.
