Triceratops Rout Charge in Regular Season Finale, 106-8
The Triceratops (21-9, 14-2) closed out their regular season in dominant fashion, overwhelming the Edison State Community College Charge (12-16, 8-8) 106-88. Devonte Greene capped his regular season with a stellar performance, posting 32 points and 18 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. His all-around dominance has solidified his candidacy for Conference Player of the Year honors. Greene's ability to control the game—whether it was his touch around the rim or relentless pursuit of the ball on the glass—was on full display.
Greene wasn't alone in the spotlight, as three of his teammates also registered double-doubles. Adisa Molton dished out 10 assists to go along with 20 points, while Xavier Vann grabbed 10 rebounds (six offensive) and scored 16 points. "It was a total team effort as we gear up for regionals," said Coach Aaron Nixon.
Other contributors included Chris Brownlee, who added 13 points and four assists, and Joel Webb, who chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Evan Sims also made his mark; his shooting was perfect as he connected on all field goal and free throw attempts to finish with 10 points in just 10 minutes of play. "We're a tough team when we get this kind of contribution from our bench," Nixon noted.
The first half was a tight contest, with the Triceratops holding a slim 51-49 lead at the break. However, the second half saw the team pull away, dominating the Charge 55-39. Greene led the charge, and his teammates followed suit. "It's my last regular season game, and I just wanted to play hard and get a win," said Greene after the game. Vann, a sophomore, reflected on the team's goals, saying, "I told my coach and teammates in August that we would hang a banner, and we did just that"
With the win, the Triceratops secured a share of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) title, marking their first conference championship for the men's program since sports resumed in 2021.
