
MBK: Tops Sink Commodores, 111-83, Jeffries with 43!
Howard 'Jayden' Jeffries scored a career high 43 points and Devonte Greene had 21 points and 10 rebounds, as the Tops routed the Commodores of Lorain Community College 111 – 82 Wednesday night at the Metro gymnasium.
Marcos Vazquez added 12 points and 10 assists while Manny Hill chipped in with13 points and five rebounds to propel the Tops to their fourth victory in five games.
The Tops led by as many as 30 points in the second half, and the lopsided victory had its highlights as Greene electrified the crowd with four dunks including two alley oops from Vazquez and Jeffries.
The bright spot in this game was Jeffries. He was simply sensational. His array of head fakes, and ball fakes kept the Commodore defenders off balance and his shot was pure. The Tops opened the second half after after taking a 45 – 33 half time lead by decideing to highlight Jeffries and the mismatch he was creating for himself.
Jeffries did not disappoint and rained down a barrage of jump shots that kept the crown enthused. Greene is third in the nation in field goal percentage (71.6%) and continued to shoot the ball well going 5/6 in the second half.
Vazquez has quietly ignited the Tops offense. He continues to distribute the ball and be a leader on the court at the point
The Tops move to 18-6 overall and 7-3 in the OCCAC trailing Hocking and Lakeland (both 9-1 in the OCCAC), but now moving into the coveted 3rd spot which would get them into the NJCAA Region XII tournament.
The Tops will travel to Edison for a 1 pm tip off on Saturday in a very key matchup with the Chargers.
