MBK: Tops battle #6 Macomb but fall 101-89

For 75% of the game, the Triceratops Men's Basketball team looked like it was ready to pull an early season upset of the #6 Macomb Monarchs on the road Saturday afternoon at the Macomb Tip Off Tournament but a cold shooting spell late in the second half as well as being outrebounded 51-32 proved to be the difference as last seasons NJCAA Division II Runnerups came away with a 101-89 victory.

The Tops were led by Howard Jeffries who went 12 for 20 from the field and 6 for 9 on three pointers to finish with 33 points.  Also scoring in double figures were Manny Hill(13), Ezra McKee (11) and Clayton Cunningham (11).  Hill led the way with 6 rebounds while Jeffries and Cunningham each chipped in with 5. Hill and Cunningham also had 4 assist each.

The Tops (1-1) will open their home season Wednesday night as they host Jamestown CC at 6 pm at the Metro Gymnasium.  The Tops defeated Jamestown twice last season with both games going to overtime.

The game will be broadcast live but come on out as there is no charge for Tops Athletics!
