Weekend Wrap-Up MBK: Tops Stay Undefeated, Take Two at CCBC Tip Off Classic

Tri-C 81  CCBC-70

In the opening game of the CCBC Tip-Off Classic, the Tops took on the host school.  The Titans came out fired up and Coach Nixon was forced into a quick timeout and then a full scale subsitution of all 5 starters. The Tops second unit paid immediate dividends as Dave Nolen set the tone going two of three from three point range. His running mate Nekhi Smith chipped in with 4 free throws and a field goal as he and Nolen combined for 12 points to settle the Tops down.

The second half was the Tallice Landers/Savontae Quarles show as the Tops steadied the ship and took command of the contest. Landers found his stroke and connected on 5/11 three pointers, while Quarles, in his first extended time, shined with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. His 60% field goal shooting from deep was electric and helped build a lead the Titans could not overcome. Jordan Persad displayed his floor mastery with a season-high 7 assists while Jamail Spivey contributed 11 points on 3/3 from the arc as the Tops cruised in the second half to an 81-70 victory.

Tri-C  84   Penn State-Beaver 72

In the second game of the CCBC Tip-Off Classic, the Tops rolled through the Penn State-Beaver Lions with an 84-72 victory.  Leading the way for the Tops was Nekhi Smith and Tyishawn Smiley each with 16 points.  Jordan Persad also filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 7 assists and 5 steals, while Savontae Quarles was a beast on the boards with 8 rebounds. In all, 10 Triceratops scored in the victory.

The Tops move to 5-0 on the season and will travel to Community Christian College in Detroit, MI Wednesday night before returning home for their first home game on Friday night at the Metro Campus vs. ISA Academy at 6 pm.
