Triceratops Extend Streak to 12 with Dominant Doubleheader Sweep
March 21 - Ron Mottl Field
The Triceratops continue to play extraordinary baseball, extending their winning streak to 12 games with a commanding 11-1 victory over the Terra State Titans in game one, followed by a dominant 10-1 win in game two. The team's combination of stellar pitching, explosive offense, and relentless speed was too much for the Titans to handle.
In the opening game, the dynamic duo of Zach Barber and Logan Ion shut down the Titans' offense. Barber and Ion combined for six innings of one-earned-run ball, striking out five batters and keeping Terra State off balance all afternoon. The pitching staff's dominance was complemented by an electric offensive display.
Brendan Hazuda led the charge, launching a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning and finishing the game with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. The offense displayed incredible speed, swiping seven bases in total, with Kohan Merritt and Kyle Figuray each stealing two. Pat Farrell was also a standout, scoring three runs while driving in three, including a double and a triple.
Game two saw more of the same from the Triceratops, as Johnathan Bircher and Banks Cox combined for another strong pitching performance, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven in a 10-1 victory. Bircher was particularly impressive, striking out seven while facing 25 batters, and showing remarkable resilience after surrendering a home run in the first inning. Head Coach Kyle Stahlberg remarked, "That center field smash must have gotten under his skin. He was unconscious the rest of the way."
The Triceratops' versatility was on full display as they showed they could win in a variety of ways—power, pitching, and speed. Figuray's three stolen bases in game two, along with Merritt, Jackson Boles, and Brock Miller each adding two, kept the Titans on their toes throughout the day. The Triceratops' balanced approach to offense, coupled with airtight pitching, has them looking nearly unbeatable as their streak continues to grow.
Next up, the Triceratops will visit Terra State for two games on 22 March 2025, at the Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center, located at 3115 Cleveland Rd, Sandusky, OH 44870. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
