The Glen Oaks Community College volleyball team competed at the Owens Invitational Saturday, falling in both matches.
In the opener, Edison State defeated the Vikings 25-16, 25-17, 25-13. Karsyn Stebbins and Kaytlin Smith each finished with a team-high six kills for GOCC, while Keegan Russell produced 10 assists. Elayna Zuidema finished with four assists and a team-best two aces.
Isabella Coy paced the Vikings with 10 digs, Stebbins and Russell each notched seven, Tamerah Clay had six and Zuidema ended the match with five.
It was another battle later in the day with Cuyahoga Community College, who edged the Vikings 25-22, 25-23, 25-18.
Kaytlin Smith came away with 11 kills, Gina Smith had nine, and Alicyn Arevalo and Stebbins each recorded seven for the GOCC offense. Russell racked up 18 assists and Zuidema finished with 11. Zuidema led Glen Oaks with two service aces and eight digs. Coy registered seven digs, Stebbins added six and Clay finished with five. Russell chipped in four digs.
