Softball drops pair to Triceratops

The Lakeland womens softball team played host to the Cuyahoga Triceratops today and fell in both games by the scores of 15-2 and 15-1. In game 1, Cuyahoga jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Lakers answered by scoring a run in the home half when Carmen Alvarez led off with a walk. Peyton Trick then advanced Alvarez to second with a single before Alvarez stole 3rd base. Sydney Plotts would drive Alvarez in with a RBI-groundout. Tri-C would then tack on 5 more runs in the top of the second to take a 9-1 lead after 2 innings. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Lakers would score another run when Alvarez hit a 1-out single. Plotts followed with an RBI-double.  Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were unable to generate any more offense as they dropped game one.

Sydney Plotts led the way with a double and 2 RBI's while Carmen Alvarez and Abby Schneider each added a hit. Leah Richter took the loss on the mount being charged for 8 runs (1 earned). Abby Schneider closed out game 1 for the Lakers.

Game 2 would have a similar feel as Tri-C again jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lakers would score a run to make the score 4-1. The rally started when the Lakers' Abby Haydu, Morgan Gross, and Emerson Hren all hit singles to load the bases. Leah Richter than walked to force in Haydu. That would be all for the Lakers though as the next batteer flew out to left and then Gross was cut down at the plate. The score would remain 4-1 until the Triceratops scored 7 runs in the top of the 4th inning as they were able to take advantage of a couple Lakeland errors. From there, Cuyahoga was able to close out the game.

Peyton Trick took the loss in game 2 allowing 8 runs (3 earned). Madison Ciammaichella relieved and finished the game. Morgan Gross had 2 hits in game two while Abby Haydu and Emerson Hren also both picked up a hit. Leah Richter picked up an RBI for the Lakers.

Next Up: The Lakers will next host the Owens Express on Tuesday (4/22) in an OCCAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
