Baseball falls to Triceratops

The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Cuyahoga CC today and dropped both ends of a doubleheader by the scores of 15-7 and 11-1. In game 1, the Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Miguel Fuentes got Lakeland going with a double. Nicholas Square followed with a single before Parker LaGreca brought Fuentes home with an RBI-single. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Cuyahoga took advantage of a walk and hit batter to key a 4-1 lead after 3 innings. In the top of the 4th inning, Lakeland regained the lead scoring 5 runs and taking a 6-4 lead. Fuentes again got the inning started with another double. Square was then hit by a pitch before LaGreca recorded a sacrifice. Josiah Cuesta then hit an RBI-double before Kaleb Corrin hit a 2-RBI double. Ray Cowen closed out the scoring with a 2-run homerun. The Lakers allowed Tri-C to tie the score in the home half as Lakeland issued a pair of walks, hit a batter, and committed an error to aid Tri-C. Lakeland was held scoreless in the 5th before the Triceratops erupted for 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to put the game away. Lakeland would add a run in the 7th inning to close out their scoring. In the 7th, Ray Cowen and Cody Crawford hit back-to-back singles before Cowen later scored on a wild pitch.

Ray Cowen led the way offensively with 2 hits (HR) and 2 RBI's while Cody Crawford (2b) and Miguel Fuentes (2-2B) each collected a pair of hits. Kaleb Corrin picked up a double and 2 RBI's while Parker LaGreca and Josiah Cuesta each added a double and an RBI. Nicholas Square and James LaVigne each added a hit in the Laker defeat. Pitching stats were not available at the time of print.

In game 2, the Lakers managed just 4 hits in the loss. Tri-C took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning before the Lakers scored a run to make it 2-1 in the top of the 2nd inning. In the 2nd, Wilfredo Ortiz singled before both Miguel Fuentes and Parker LaGreca walked. Later in the inning, Josiah Cuesta hit an RBI fielder's choice for the Lakers. Unfortunately for Lakeland, they were unable to string together some hits throughout the rest of the game while the Triceratops continued to score a couple of runs in the following innings as the Lakers fell in the nightcap.

Wilfredo Ortiz led Lakeland with 2 hits while Ray Cowen and James LaVigne each added a hit in the loss. Pitching stats were not available at the time of print.

Next Up: These two teams will go at it again tomorrow (3/29) as the Lakers will play host to the Triceratops in a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Laker Field.
