The Tri-C Women's Basketball team moved to 7-4 on the season, defeating Alpena CC (MI), 72-56 in the opening game of the Mott Holdiay Tournament. The Tops snapped a three game losing streak in a big way.
The first quarter was tough with the Lumberjacks taking a 15-14 lead into the second quarter, but the Tops outscored Alpena 22-12 in the second quarter to take a lead they would not relinquish. Leading the charge in that second quarter was Tori Smith who hit 2 big three pointers and finished with 11 points overall to provide the spark needed. Briana Bunkley (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Mari Shelton (14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) continued to perform steadily. In all, 9 different Tops scored. Dariah Kirksey also had a season high with 8 points.
Tri-C will face tournament host, Mott CC, tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm. They will have their last game before the holiday break next Wednesday at home as Region XII foe, Kalamazoo Valley CC will visit the Eastern campus with a noon tipoff.
